Bei “The Social Network” handelt es sich um den neuen Film von David Fincher, zu dem Reznor die Musik beisteuerte.

Releasing a statement, Trent Reznor reflected on life beyond Nine Inch Nails. “This has been an interesting new discipline for me to work in and I’m pleased with the process and the result,” he said. “The film opens October 1 and really turned out great.”

The five song sampler is available for free now via Trent Reznor’s own Null Corporation. Teaming up with Madison Gate Records for the release, the five track sampler comes before the premiere of ‘The Social Network’.

The free giveaway reflects Reznor’s mindset now, with the industrial guru set to keep prices low – the entire album will only cost $2.99 to download. Alongside a digital release, Trent Reznor has confirmed that the soundtrack will be available in physical bundles.

How To Destroy Angels – kostenlose EP Anfang Juni

Ob die Nine Inch Nails jetzt wirklich Geschichte sind oder nicht, darf bezweifelt werden. Immerhin tauchte vor Kurzem ein neuer Song für den Abspann des Films “Tetsuo: The Bullet Man” auf. Diesen Song hatte Trent Reznor den Produzenten des Films bereits im Januar letzten Jahres versprochen; bis zum Februar 2010 hörten sie allerdings nichts von ihm. Dann jedoch bekamen sie einen großartigen Ambienttrack zugeschickt, den ihr euch hier anhören könnt. Wann dieser Song allerdings geschrieben und produziert wurde und ob er eventuell aus der Schublade des umtriebigen Musikers stammt, sei dahingestellt.

Ebenfalls nicht lange her ist die Meldung, das Reznor mit seiner Frau Mariqueen Maandig, die er im Oktober 2009 ehelichte, ein neues Projekt mit dem Titel How To Destroy Angels gestartet hat. Es gibt bereits ein sehr düsteres Video zu bewundern, und am 1. Juni erscheint die Debüt-EP. Die digitale Variante wird kostenlos sein. Mit einer gültigen E-Mail-Adresse könnt ihr diese EP sozusagen vorbestellen, und ihr erhaltet den Song “The Believers” zum sofortigen Download. 320 kbps MP3, delivered via email on June 1; includes immediate download of “The Believers.”

The two songs posted by Trent Reznor on Vimeo both feature electro legend Gary Numan and were recorded at the band’s O2 Arena show on July 15 this year. The rock legend wrote: “We’re beginning work on a variety of things NIN and not-NIN related that we’ll inform you of when the time is right. Das ist bereits so gut vom Jeriko aufbereitet, das ich das einfach mal direkt klaue:

Nine Inch Nails befinden sich ja gerade leider auf ihrer Abschiedstournee, und ich hab ja wirklich die Befürchtung, dass es so 10 Jahre dauern dürfte, bis man Trent Reznor in dieser Form wieder auf der Bühne sieht – Gastauftritte lasse ich bei der Vermutung mal außen vor, und aus dem Business zurückziehen will er sich ja nicht, nur eben anderen Projekten anhängen.

Na jedenfalls sind die Abschiedskonzerte in den USA der ziemliche Hammer. Die Bühne in New York war geradezu winzig, die Show spartanisch, dafür gab es gut und gerne zwei Stunden lang was auf die Ohren, und, und da musste ich ja leise aufstöhnen, weil ich es so gerne live gesehen hätte: Downward Spiral, das zweite Album und der wirkliche Durchbruch für Nine Inch Nails, wurde komplett durchgezockt. YouTube-User Plaguedog32 hat das Ganze glücklicherweise mit einer SC-HMX10C in HD-Auflösung aufgezeichnet und bei YouTube hochgeladen, und für ein Bootleg ist die Qualität geradezu fantastisch.

Radiointerview: Trent Reznor zum Ende von NIN

Das habe ich irgendwie verschlafen, und deswegen muss ich mir das heute abend anhören. Trent Reznor, Frontmann der Nine Inch Nails, hat sich entschlossen die Band auflösen. Hintergründe zu seiner Entscheidung gibt es heute ab 21.00 Uhr in einem Interview in der Sendung Radio Affairs bei RadioEins.

Trent Reznor verkündet das Ende der NINE INCH NAILS
Anja Caspary hat mit ihm telefoniert und ihn zu diesem Entschluss und seinen weiteren Plänen befragt. In diesem – für Deutschland exklusiven – Interview hat er sehr ehrlich und intim über seine Karriere, seine Sehnsucht nach einer Vaterschaft und seine kommende Hochzeit gesprochen…
Am 30. Juni wird er zum letzten Mal mit NIN in Berlin spielen, einen Tag vorher gibts Karten dafür zu gewinnen – im zweistündigen GOODBYE-NIN-SPECIAL in der Radio Affair. 21.00 bis 23.00 Uhr.

Trent Reznor verabschiedet sich aus den “Online communities, etc.”, allen voran Twitter. Das ist wirklich sehr schade, denn es war immer interessant und unterhaltsam, was der NIN-Frontmann dort von sich gab. Allerdings scheint er inzwischen die Schnauze voll zu haben. Wirklich ärgerlich, wie ein paar Idioten dafür sorgen, das einer der interessantesten Musiker unserer Zeit, einer, der das Internet wirklich verstanden hat, sich dazu gezwungen sieht, sich zurück zu ziehen. Die genauen Beweggründe könnt ihr hier nachlesen.

The reason no record label knows how to market anything to new media is they don’t live there. They don’t get it because they don’t use it. What you’ve seen happen with the marketing and presentation of NIN over the last years is a direct result of living next to you, listening to you, consuming with you and interacting with you. Directly. There’s no handlers or PR people here, it’s me and my guys – that’s it. There’s no real plan, even – it’s just trying to do the right thing that respects you the fan, the music, and me the artist. That’s the goal – a mutual and shared respect.[...] Anyway, I’m bored on a long bus drive and there’s no real moral to the story here, just writing. I will be tuning out of the social networking sites because at the end of the day it’s now doing more harm than good in the bigger picture and the experiment seems to have yielded a result. Idiots rule.

NIN: iPhone App Update freigegeben

Ihr erinnert euch? Trent Reznoer hat sich ein wenig darüber aufgeregt, das Apple das jüngste Update des Nine Inch Nails-Apps für das iPhone nicht freigegeben hat. Der Grund war wohl einfach der, das dort der Song “The Downward Spiral ” gestreamt werden konnte, und der enthält einige Wörter, die den Moralwächtern Apples wohl widerstrebten. Aber anscheinend hat man sich noch einmal hingesetzt und über die Zulassung nachgedacht, denn jetzt ist das App ohne Änderung angenommen worden.

“The long-awaited 1.0.3 update for the NIN: Access iPhone app is now available in the iTunes app store. This free update fixes a number of critical bugs, including the crashing bug that plagued many international users. We encourage all Access users to download this update, particularly those who have found the app to be unstable.

In addition to the bug fixes, we’ve made some minor tweaks to “Nearby” and added support for legacy usernames.

For those who have been awaiting this update in order to use the app, we apologize for the extended delay. Anyone still experiencing bugs after installing this update, please report them here.”

Trent Reznor vs. Apple

Trent Reznor hat gerade ein wenig Stress mit Apple. Nun, nicht gerade mit der Firma selber, sondern mit der Zulassungsstelle für iPhone Apps. Das jüngste Update für die Nine Inch Nails-Anwendung (weitere Infos zur iPhone App hier) wurde nämlich abgelehnt. Und zwar deswegen, weil dort der Song “The Downward Spiral” gestreamt werden kann. Und dieser enthält wohl ein paar Ausdrücke, die Apple missfallen. Reznors Reaktion ist entsprechend eindeutig:

You can buy The Downward Fucking Spiral on iTunes, but you can’t allow an iPhone app that may have a song with a bad word somewhere in it. Geez, what if someone in the forum in our app says FUCK or CUNT? I suppose that also falls into indecent material. Hey Apple, I just got some SPAM about fucking hot asian teens THROUGH YOUR MAIL PROGRAM. I just saw two guys having explicit anal sex right there in Safari! On my iPhone! Come on Apple, think your policies through and for fuck’s sake get your app approval scenario together.

Nachdem das Online-Remix-Projekt von Nine Inch Nails remix.nin.com bereits online war, wurde dieses aufgrund von Urheberrechtsstreitigkeiten mit Universal Music kurzzeitig wieder vom Netz genommen. Aber das läßt sich Trent Reznor natürlich nicht gefallen…..Sehr schön gemacht, interessant und auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert. Wer sich registriert, kann selber mit den Songs rumspielen, eigene Remixe hochladen und sich der Community-Jury stellen.

What do you think about OiNK being shut down?
Trent: I’ll admit I had an account there and frequented it quite often. At the end of the day, what made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world’s greatest record store. Pretty much anything you could ever imagine, it was there, and it was there in the format you wanted. If OiNK cost anything, I would certainly have paid, but there isn’t the equivalent of that in the retail space right now. iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don’t feel cool when I go there. I’m tired of seeing John Mayer’s face pop up. I feel like I’m being hustled when I visit there, and I don’t think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc. Amazon has potential, but none of them get around the issue of pre-release leaks. And that’s what’s such a difficult puzzle at the moment. If your favorite band in the world has a leaked record out, do you listen to it or do you not listen to it? People on those boards, they’re grateful for the person that uploaded it — they’re the hero. They’re not stealing it because they’re going to make money off of it; they’re stealing it because they love the band. I’m not saying that I think OiNK is morally correct, but I do know that it existed because it filled a void of what people want.
