Jarbird – Iona. Großartige Popmusik mit kleiner Geste.

Vor nicht allzu langer Zeit trafen sich auf dem Campus der Universität von Leeds zwei junge Menschen. Ihre Namen: Ric und Lara. Er konnte gut singen, sie spielte Piano und singen, das konnte sie auch. Sie schnappten sich Jim und Rami, und mit ihrer Unterstützung besaßen sie ein solides Rhythmus-Fundament. Fertig war das Quartett Jarbird, inzwischen in London ansässig.

Am 4. März erscheint die Debüt-EP der Band, und “Iona” ist ein Ausrufezeichen, welches ich nicht ignorieren kann. Der Song klingt ein wenig nach Radiohead, nach Apparat und auch nach Foals. Großartige Popmusik mit kleiner Geste.

Die Band sagt über den Song folgendes:

“Iona is a tiny remote island in the Hebrides, which is an unbelievably peaceful, restorative place that sits in the middle of lots of dark, cloudy islands. There’s a ruined abbey there, and it was the centre of celtic christianity for hundreds of years, inhabited by monks. The song is about those first people that settled there, and their search for quiet, really.”
