The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (or IFPI), which represents 1,300 labels worldwide, said that the decision became concrete after “consolation with artists, musicians unions, record companies and retailers.” As for the reason why this has come to the fore, they cite “frustration for consumers when music fans in other parts of the world can access new releases before them.”

Martin Mills, Gründer der Beggars Group (whu.a. Rough Trade, 4AD, und XL Recordings)sagt zum Beispiel:

“I fear this move will also lead to a market in which the mainstream dominates, and the niche, which can be tomorrow’s mainstream, is further marginalised. I fear it will further cement the dominance of the few – and that that is exactly what it is intended to do.”

Jetzt also auch weltweit.

It’s actually happened: Friday is the official, universal, global release day for music
Apparently the music industry is close to making Friday the global release date for music
